New Coffee Shops in Boston 2021

My cafe bucket list keeps growing and growing every year. But before I can catch up to the existing Boston-area shops, there are new spots on the scene to add to the list. Here, I share a few from in and around the Boston area and beyond that opened recently and that I would be excited to visit.

Glasser Coffee Co.

This new Brighton spot is ranked high up on my to-visit-next list because of its awesome coffee pedigree, with head barista Sarah Kim coming from previously working at Gracenote and Nine Bar Espresso. With rose matcha lattes and a unique breakfast menu, Glasser seems like the total package.

Tiny Arms Coffee

This Lowell spot is the roastery and cafe arm of Tiny Arms, which also makes beautiful ceramics– including drool-worthy mugs. While their slightly limited days open have made it tough for me to visit, I’ve had my eye on Tiny Arms for a while now and spotted their coffee for retail sale at the Concord Market.

Tiger Sugar

This boba chain has locations in both Allston and Chinatown that folks rave about. I’m not a huge bubble tea drinker, but the combination of soft, chewy boba and creamy milk tea sounds enticing.

Matcha Cafe Maiko

This cafe just opened recently in the Fenway area. Not only does it serve a range of largely matcha-based drinks, but you can also scoop up a delicious cone of ice cream or other treats.

Odd Meter Coffee

This Salem cafe opened earlier this year with a cute, quirky interior and inventive menu. Particularly fun drink names– like “The Zoom Meeting” and “Cows on Strike”, just to pick a couple– add some levity to the coffee experience.

Other recent (i.e. mid-to-late 2020) openings:

Café Beatrice– Cambridge Crossing

Both the coffee and food menu sound so appetizing at this spot inside The Lexington. They serve La Colombe coffee, which is always a treat.

Cicada Coffee Bar– Cambridge

I cannot speak highly enough of Cicada! Super friendly staff, delicious lattes and Vietnamese food menu, and I loved the atmosphere inside the cafe. The “secret” patio and garden out back is a lovely surprise as well.
